5 Pool Closing Tips For Fall

To make sure your pool remains safe during the winter, taking the necessary steps to properly close it now is vitally important.  A pool is an extension of your home and brings enjoyment for you and your guests all summer long.  Since the passing of Labor Day earlier this week, so too has the unofficial end to summer.  While there are still some warm days ahead of us during which you can take a dive, but perhaps it’s time to start planning ahead.

5 Tips To Close Your Swimming Pool

  1. Remove All Loose Debris With A Vacuum Or Brush
this prevents an unwanted buildup of algae and makes for an easier spring opening.
  2. Shock And Chlorinate Your Pool
Shocking your pool will take care of any bacteria that might have stick around during winter.
  3. Drain your lines
We Can’t Emphasize This Enough. Save yourself time and money in the spring because if you don’t drain your lines, they’ll freeze and burst.
  4. Begin The Process A Week Before You Actually Close
Add a phosphate remover to your pool a week before you close to kick off the process. This helps keep algae out!
  5. Lower The Water
For mesh covers you’ll want to lower the water about 12-18 inches below the skimmer. For those of you using a floating cover, you’ll want to lower the water 3-6 inches below the skimmer.
  6. If You Don’t Know, Ask
